SPOTLIGHT Arte & Aparte

Arte & Aparte airs on Mondays from 6 to 7 PM. The hosts, Soreyda Begley and Mercedes Harn contribute with their experience in the arts, and offer knowledge to the audience about different artistic environments in Lexington. They also interview people from different countries and talk about their skills in order to promote their talents and motivate the audience. Furthermore, Arte & Aparte offers a cultural calendar each week.  It’s a fun show full of information!

SPOTLIGHT Bluegrass Bookend

Join Mack McCormick and Chris McCurry every Saturday on WLXU 93.9 FM from 3 PM to 4 PM for Bluegrass Bookend, a show dedicated to the reading and writing of books with a focus on Lexington, the state of Kentucky, and beyond. Mack and Chris interview authors and other members of the literary community, and sometimes have fun segments on their show, such as a literary version of “would you rather?”

SPOTLIGHT Ciencia sin Miedo

I’m Sebastian Hernandez and I produce the show Ciencia Sin Miedo on 95.7 FM El Pulso Latino in Lexington, KY. This show is intended to bring listeners closer to science and technology by relating these topics with our everyday lives. Through simple language, Ciencia Sin Miedo explains the causes of many phenomenons that occur in nature, as well as matters related to physical, emotional, and mental health, and covers topics of nutrition, technological development, and all that surrounds us in an scientific context. Ciencia Sin Miedo is an educational space for everyone, where listeners have the opportunity to question and learn while being entertained with a variety of topics and music. You can listen to Ciencia Sin Miedo live every Wednesday from 6-7, and listen to the re-air on Friday at 3 PM and Sunday at 11 AM.

Summer Sounds

As summer’s heat notches up, your own Lexington Community Radio is putting on events that will really get things sizzling! Summer Sounds, presented by Kentucky for Kentucky and Ouita Michel Family of Restaurants, is a series of music concerts and house parties benefitting Lexington Community Radio. Al’s Bar will kick off the series with Devine Carama, Corey Dunn, Joey Truax, and DJ Sergio on July 8 and The Burl hosts Mike Tyree of The Past, The Footsteps, and Big Fresh on July 12. Stay tuned to 93.9 FM & 95.7 FM, and check our Facebook page for information on more Summer Sounds happening throughout July and August.

SPOTLIGHT Educate Yourself for the Future

“Educate para tu Futuro” is a  Bryan Station High School Initiative lead by Mrs. Marisol Valles-Family and Community District Liaison for Fayette County Schools as well as students of BSHS. Educate Para Tu Futuro is a Spanish and English radio show with the intent to inform parents regarding a variety of academic and educational topics, to help them better understand the school system in the United States as well as provide them with the tools and opportunities that they need to help their children become successful in their studies to ultimately graduate from High School and continued post-secondary education. Also, by having students involved in the radio show we are empowering them to be involved and become future leaders of our community.

The show started in August of 2016 and has been of great help for many parents in our community. Mrs. Valles believes that the best investment we can do in our life is to invest in our children’s education. Educate para tu Futuro is live every Thursday at 4pm-5pm and it will re-air every Sunday at 5pm. Currently we have the same show in English “Educate Yourself for the Future” a WLXU 93.9 FM every Sunday from 11:30am-12pm.
